One of the greatest traditions in golf is the Par 3 contest that takes place at Augusta National the day before the start of The Masters. The event has provided plenty of great memories in the past and this year didn’t disappoint either.

There were two moments that highlighted the Par 3 contest, Tony Finau making an ace and then dislocating his ankle celebrating, then there was Jack Nicklaus’ grandson, Gary, who also made an ace after relieving his grandfather on the final hole. Gary Nicklaus Jr. caddied for his grandfather most of the contest but got his one shot and made the most of it.

Nicklaus Jr. hit his shot perfectly in the middle of the green and then watched it roll back towards the hole until it finally dropped into the cup. The Golden Bear was the first one to greet his grandson, giving him a huge bear hug and Gary Player followed with a pat on the back. Player can also be heard in the video giving great commentary throughout the entire moment.

Jack said that the moment was even more special than any of the six Green Jackets that he’s won at Augusta. After celebrating, Nicklaus took to Twitter to share his feelings on the moment. “With all due respect to the Masters, allow me to put my six green jackets in the closet for a moment and say that I don’t know if I have had a more special day on a golf course.”

The Nicklaus blood is certainly flowing strong in Gary Nicklaus Jr. but there’s another one of Jack’s grandchildren that’s doing pretty well for himself. Nick O’Leary is a tight end in the NFL, previously at Florida State, and has had a role as a backup with the Buffalo Bills since being drafted in 2015. But with the emergence of Gary, O’Leary may want to step it up if he wants to stay the most athletic grandson of the Golden Bear.

Having the opportunity to see your grandchild make a once in a lifetime shot is so special, especially with that scene. We’re happy that Jack got to witness the moment and we hope to see much more of Gary Nicklaus Jr. in the future.
