Walk-up music is a staple of many sports, most notably baseball players feature their favorite tracks when they step up to the plate at home games. But now golf could be the next sport to infuse music into its game.

The Zurich Classic of New Orleans recently announced that they will be allowing all players to choose walk-up music during the final two rounds of the tournament. This type of entertainment has been experimented with in the past on the European Tour but this will be the first time that it will be tried on the PGA TOUR. And that’s nothing new to the Zurich Classic, as they’ve been creating unique firsts for the past two years.

Last year, the Zurich Classic became the first official PGA TOUR event since 1981 that was a team competition. The event allowed for players to form their own teams that would compete in two rounds of best ball and other alternate shot competitions. The winning team last year was Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith, who won in a playoff.

The event was a huge hit last year among fans and players, which has allowed for the PGA TOUR to continue looking for unique tournament opportunities. “We are continuously looking for fun and innovative ways for our players to connect with fans,” said Tyler Dennis, chief of operations for the Tour. “Zurich and the Fore!Kids Foundation have been great leaders in bringing new elements to the game of golf.”

This year, the Zurich Classic should be just as exciting as last year with a ton of top players already confirming that they’ll play in the event April 26-29th. The players that are confirmed to participate are Masters Champion Patrick Reed and FedExCup champ Justin Thomas, along with Jon Rahm, Jason Day, Bubba Watson and Justin Rose.

No teams have been confirmed as of yet, but as more players commit, the teams will start to shape up.

The Zurich Classic has given players an opportunity to let loose and have fun in the past and this year should be no different. We’re excited to see what this year will hold, and especially what walk-up songs each team will pick for the final two rounds of the tournament.
