Jon Rahm Calls for the U.S. and Europe’s Best at the Ryder Cup, Regardless of PGA or LIV Status

We saw the International Team at the Presidents Cup be affected by the PGA Tour’s ban against LIV golfers more than the United States team, and Jon Rahm doesn’t want to see a repeat of that at next year’s Ryder Cup.

After winning the Open de España in his home country of Spain over the weekend, Rahm said that he wants to see the best of both the U.S. and Europe when the Ryder Cup tees off at San Marco in the Italian capital of Rome next fall.

Rahm said from Spain:

“The Ryder Cup is not the PGA Tour and European Tour against LIV…It’s Europe versus the U.S., period.”

This opinion flies in the face of other European team stalwarts, including reigning FedEx Cup champion Rory McIlroy.

But the courts may decide this battle, as LIV Golf pros can currently play on the DP World Tour until a court in the United Kingdom decides whether or not to uphold the DP World Tour’s ruling to suspend LIV pros like the PGA Tour has.

The Presidents Cup is fully owned by the PGA Tour, so they were able to suspend the International Team players like Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, and Louis Oosthuizen. But the Ryder Cup is jointly held between the PGA of America and DP World Tour, so while top U.S. players in LIV like Dustin Johnson will likely not be in Italy, there’s still a chance that all of Europe’s stars will be there.

Top European golfers on the LIV Golf circuit include Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Sam Horsfield.
