Journalist Wins Opportunity to Play Augusta National for First Golf Round EVER

If you’re a golfer, you have a bucket list of courses in your head that you dream of playing. Places like Pine Valley, Cypress Point and Tara Iti. But no matter what courses you have on your list, I can almost guarantee that Augusta National Golf Club is somewhere near—if not at—the top of your list.

Now imagine having the opportunity to play Augusta in Masters Tournament conditions.

If you’re not already salivating over your keyboard yet, imagine this: playing your first round of golf at Augusta in Masters Tournament conditions.
 That’s right, last week Julia Westerman, the Sports Anchor/Reporter for WIS News 10, won the Media Lottery—an annual treat to a very select, lucky few who are provided a Monday morning tee time—and had the opportunity to play her first round of golf at Augusta National on the Monday following the Masters.

As if this month couldn’t get any crazier, I just won the media lottery to play a round at Augusta National on Monday.

And despite all the crazy sports news earlier this week (including the WNBA Draft), Julia had the opportunity to tweet about her experience at Augusta, stating it was “everything you think it’d be and more.”

And while the knee-jerk reaction is to get mad at or be jealous of Julia’s incredible opportunity, I feel bad for her: how you do ever play golf anywhere else after playing your first round of golf at Augusta? I imagine that it will be near impossible to replicate that experience, or even the conditions she played in. But one thing is for sure: Julia will remember her first round of golf for the rest of her life.
