Justin Rose Keeps Amazing Win Streak Alive

There are many different streaks that are kept on the PGA TOUR, whether it be wins, putts, etc. And by winning at the WGC-HSBC Championship, Justin Rose kept up one of the more impressive current streaks in golf.

Many know Justin Rose as one of the best golfers in the world, winning his first and only major at the 2013 U.S. Open. But what many don’t know about Rose is that he has been an incredibly consistent golfer for the past decade. And by winning the WGC-HSBC Championship, Rose continued a streak of winning at least one golf event for the past eight years.

2017 was going to be the first year he was held without a victory until the big win this weekend. Prior to that, Rose had a few runner-up finishes that would have made losing the streak sting a little more. For those who will claim that Rose didn’t win a PGA TOUR event last year, you’d be right. But Rose counts his gold medal at the Olympics as a golf win to keep the streak alive.

Keeping that streak alive is something that Rose looks to accomplish every year. “I’ve prided myself on winning every year since 2010,” Rose said. “It’s becoming harder and harder to win out here, as I’ve found out. It’s not really a complete year unless you’ve hoisted a trophy. So I’m happy to have that box ticked in 2017.”

And Rose ticked that box in exciting fashion at the WGC-HSBC Champions event. Heading into Sunday, Rose was eight shots back of then-leader Dustin Johnson. Johnson was well on his way to becoming the first player to win three World Golf Championship events in the same year but shot 77 in the final round that allowed Rose to take the trophy after shooting a five-under 67.

Now that Rose has the pressure off of him to win an event in 2017, he can focus on multiple trophies over the next year. And if he plays his cards right, Rose could find himself winning the second major of his career.
