Keith Olbermann Posts Twitter Rant Calling for Masters Boycott
In a tweet published on April 2, Keith Olbermann shared why he thinks that the PGA Tour should no longer associate itself with The Masters tournament, and adamantly called for an all-out boycott of the event.
This comes right off the heels of the MLB announcing that it would no longer host its All-Star game in Atlanta, in response to the Georgia voters bill that was reported on in one of our earlier stories.
Olbermann is not the first to call for a boycott of the Masters, but given that his Twitter video already has well over one million views, it’s obvious that his voice is one of the loudest on the topic.
BOYCOTT THE MASTERS!
You think the term “The Masters” was applied to a golf tournament in the former slave state of Georgia by…coincidence? After baseball moved its All-Star Game out of Atlanta, The Masters, its sponsors, and its tv networks are next.#BoycottTheMasters pic.twitter.com/GDbOWVGJAp

Olbermann called for the PGA Tour to drop the event to in essence, make it count for nothing, saying that it should be dropped as a Major. As for ESPN, CBS, and TSN, he mentioned that they simply should refuse to televise the event.
“The people behind the Masters don’t give a damn about any of that, but the tv networks and the sponsors have to” Olbermann exclaimed. “It is against them that the pressure must build”.
With practice rounds starting Monday, and the tournament itself commencing on Thursday the reality of a boycott actually happening seems unrealistic, but that didn’t stop Olbermann from pleading his case on social media.
“These monsters cannot be appeased, they must be broken,” Olbermann finished. “The next battlefield is Augusta, Georgia.”
There is no doubt that Olbermann’s words will be met with strong and highly polarized opinions from the golf community, so feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.
