Lefty Goes Righty and Beats Everyone

With the New England Patriots out of town and the PGA TOUR in town, the U.S. Ryder Cup team decided to get together at Gillette Stadium for a little team bonding.

The team shared a meal behind one of the end zones and heard an inspirational speech from 1980 U.S. Hockey team member and gold medal winner, Mike Eruzione.

But that’s not why we’re here.

The team also took part in a closest to the pin contest on the football field.

The only person with clubs, though, was Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III. Not a problem for all of the right-handers on the team, but then there’s Phil Mickelson, you know, Lefty.

Turns out, it wasn’t a problem for him, either.

From 78 yards away and swinging from the right-side, Mickelson stuck it four feet from the pin.

And then he went full Mickelson and humble-bragged his way through an interview.

“Honestly, it’s just not that hard to play golf right-handed,” Mickelson said Thursday with a coy smile on his face the entire time, “I think the real challenge and enjoyment I get is from trying to play the game left-handed.”

Well played, Lefty, well played.
