Meet the Titleist TS4: The New Super Low-Spin Driver

There’s no question that the Titleist’s TS2 and TS3 have been a huge success since their debut.  But today, Titleist proved that they aren’t done yet, as evidenced by the newest evolution of the Titleist Speed Project: the TS4.

The TS4, which is making its debut this week at the Valero Texas Open, is engineered to be a high-speed, ultra low-spin design by merging Titleist Speed Project technologies with a low, forward center-of-gravity (CG) that neutralizes spin to produce a longer, more piercing ball flight.

Josh Talge, Vice President of Marketing (Titleist Golf Clubs), commented on the third addition to Titleist’s driver options:

While we know most golfers find their best fit in a TS2 or TS3 driver, there is a percentage of players out there with distinct performance needs, such as aggressive spin reduction.  TS4 is the ultra low-spin driver that still produces exceptional ball speed.  If you want to hit it longer but are having trouble controlling spin off the tee, TS4 was made for you.

In contrast to the TS2 and TS3, the TS4 will feature a 430cc Speed Chassis head that is designed to reduce drag and, in turn, faster swings that will increase club head speed and distance, while simultaneously aggressively reducing spin and maximizing distance for high-spin players.  Additionally, the TS4 will feature an ultra-thin titanium crown that allows low and forward weight distribution for reduced spin and a refined Radial VFT (variable face thickness) that reduces weight, delivers faster ball speeds, and increases forgiveness.  Moreover, the TS4 will come with Titleist’s signature SureFit Hosel, which allows for 16 independent loft and lie settings that can be fine-tuned for ball flight optimization.

While on the subject of “fine-tuning,” the TS4 will also come with the same four aftermarket shaft models as TS2 and TS3: Project X’s Even Flow T1100 White 65 (Low launch and spin) and HZRDUS Smoke Black 60 (Low/mid launch and spin), and MCA GOLF’s TENSEI AV Series Blue 55 (Mid launch and spin) and KURO KAGE Black Dual Core 50 (High launch and moderate spin).  However, if something else offers a worthwhile performance gain, Titleist also offers an industry-leading number of custom shaft choices.

While the super low-spin design of the TS4 will sacrifice some MOI (moment of inertia, which measures the club head’s forgiveness), it should be a worthy trade-off for golfers who create too much spin.  “[W]e know through our player testing that TS4 can give them greater distance consistency versus what they would see in a higher-MOI product,” Talge said.
