MOM TEXT: Justin Thomas’ Mom Sends Savage Text to Him in 2014

When we watch our favorite players tee off on the PGA TOUR, sometimes we forget that they’re people just like us with families. But those families don’t forget about their star sons, especially their mothers.

For example, Justin Thomas’ mom always watches her son play when she can and keeps track of his career which could be a good thing and a bad thing for Thomas. The good comes from having a strong support system but the bad comes from when you play poorly and lose out on money. And Thomas still holds a rough memory of his mother from 2014.

Back then, Thomas was on the Web.com Tour trying to earn his promotion to the PGA TOUR but did receive a handful of exemptions that allowed him to compete. During one of his exemptions at the Memorial, Thomas was looking good going into the final hole but then double-bogeyed 18 to drop back a few spots. He didn’t know how much money that cost him at the time but his mom was quick to text him that he lost $40,000 on that hole.

Thomas was not happy to get that text when he got off the course. “I was like, ‘Mom, if you ever send me a text like this again, I will delete your number’,” Thomas said. “Don’t ever text me something like this.“That was something where, especially in a text message where you can’t hear the tone, you just like look at it, you’re like, Really? Did you need to send that?”

Hopefully this weekend, Momma Thomas won’t have any complaints about her son’s earnings. JT currently sits at the top of the FedEx Cup rankings with the Tour Championship taking place to settle the FedEx Cup winner once and for all. If he wins, that’ll be a cool $15 million purse. Even if he falls out of that top spot, he’ll make a good chunk of change but his mom might remind him of what he missed out on.

I guess the moral of the story is that you can’t live with your mom and you can’t live without her. And hopefully Thomas will be able to keep his current lead so that his mom doesn’t have to text him about the millions he could have had.
