More Than Just Winners Will be Eligible at 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions
The principle of the Tournament of Champions has now changed for the 2023 season announcing not only winners of the previous season will qualify for the tournament but also the top 30 in the Fedex Cup Points. The top 30 will include the players who advanced to East Lake at the Tour Championship this week.
Does this defeat the purpose of the Tournament of Champions?
Added Players
This happened in a different way in 2021, where some players were unable to play in the Tournament of Champions due to the pandemic, and other players filled their spots. With the new rules set in place, the new qualifiers will include: Collin Morikawa, Adam Scott, Aaron Wise, Scott Stallings, Cameron Young Corey Conners, Brian Harman and Sahith Theegala.

Nearly Doubled Purse
The purse will be significantly larger at $15 million, which is up $8.2 million from this year. Cameron Smith is the defending champion of the Sentry Tournament of Champions, who likely won’t be able to play if he ultimately decides to join LIV Golf. This would also include Hudson Swafford to be deemed ineligible based on the PGA Tour’s handling of LIV golfers.
