NBC Sports Not Extending Contracts of Renowned Golf Commentators Maltbie and Koch
It’s impossible not to know the voices of Roger Maltbie and Gary Koch if you have watched golf even a few times in your lifetime. Roger started back in 1992 covering for NBC sports totaling 30 years of on-air coverage for the 5-time PGA winner. Gary Koch was in a similar position, winning six times on the PGA Tour, and started his career with NBC sports in 1997, just shortly after Maltbie.
Golf Channel executive producer had this to say about the dynamic duo (originally reported from Golfweek):
“Roger and Gary have been synonymous with NBC Sports’ golf coverage for decades, having educated and entertained multiple generations of viewers and having made some of the most memorable calls in the history of the game. Their professionalism and prowess is only exceeded by their character as they have been great teammates and friends to so many of us here. We will be honoring their careers during our coverage of the PNC Championship in December.”
Maltbie will be remembered for his on-course reporting that he delivered for decades, while Gary Koch with great calls on the golf course, like Tiger making the insane 60-foot putt at the Players Championship in 2001.
Both were great golfers amongst the pair totaling 11 tour wins total. Koch stopped playing on the Champions Tour in 2018, while Maltbie hung it up in 2012. It will be interesting to see what these two gentlemen will pursue next, if it is working for another network or seeking other business ventures.
Regards to both of these respected men in their successful careers.
