Oregon Golfers Play through Forest Fires

There are quite a few ways that mother nature is able to ruin a golfer’s round. In Oregon, however, a huge natural disaster hasn’t been able to stop some dedicated players.

For the past few days, Oregon has been ravaged by some wildfires that have destroyed a lot of wildlife in the state. So far, over 33,000 acres of forest have been burned thanks to the wildfires that were supposedly started by some teenagers. Through this event though has come one of the best pictures of the year on the golf course.

At the Beacon Golf Course in North Bonneville, Washington, Oregon residents were enjoying a round of golf with a blaze of Oregon’s wildfires playing as a cool backdrop for their round. This sight resulted in one of the most incredible pictures you will come across, and many thought that it was fake or photoshopped. The course confirmed that the picture is real though.

For those who are worried about golfers’ safety at this point, they were just fine. “The golfers and I were not actually in any danger,” says Kristi McCluer. “When I was done taking pictures, I walked over to them and we talked about how crazy and surreal and horrifying this event is, but I didn’t get their names or have any real interaction with them. It was just a few words exchanged.”

Normally, you would think that players would not be able to play a full round so close to the flames because of smoke filling the air but they were able to finish the full round. So while a lot of rain has the ability to stop some golfers from finishing a round, fire doesn’t seem to limit any player’s abilities.

The picture that they were able to take is one that will certainly last the ages but we can only hope that authorities can slow the fire and stop it from doing any more damage.
