PERFECT: David Feherty and Gary McCord Reuniting Once Again
Golf fans are in store for a whole new experience this year with a lot of shakeups coming from the broadcast booths of networks. One of the best and familiar duos will be coming back, even if it is only for a day!
If you’ve watched golf at all during the past few decades, two names that you’re sure to be familiar with are David Feherty and Gary McCord. While both have had successful careers in the broadcast booth individually, they were always best as a duo, delivering entertaining and informative commentary from the booth during some of golf’s greatest events. And, if you’re a fan of the PGA TOUR video games, I’m sure you also remember the commentary they provided for the games.
Even though they were wildly successful together, Feherty and McCord haven’t been on the same broadcast team since 2016, when Feherty left CBS for an expanded role at NBC. McCord remained with CBS until this year when he was let go for being too “stale.” McCord has taken extreme offense to that idea and has remained active in the golf community despite not having his longtime role.
Since McCord is now free and Feherty is still going strong, the two have decided that it’s time to rekindle the old magic they had, but only for one day, the Wednesday before the Waste Management Phoenix Open tees off. McCord is slated to join Feherty on his show “Together Again” for an hour that Wednesday and Feherty especially seems extremely excited to be together with McCord again.
“The bottom line is I miss him, and I just thought it would be fun to do one of these together,” Feherty said in an interview with the Arizona Republic ahead of the event. “We’ve had so much history over the last 25 years. There have been some strange things that have happened. I thought it might be fun to have him on for the last hour, or the second hour, of the program.”
This is definitely a show you’re going to want to tune into for all of the nostalgia that is sure to come out of it. Who knows, maybe if that spark is still there NBC can find a role for McCord to join Feherty on occasion. While this might be wishful thinking, it’s still going to be great to hear these two together again.
