PGA TOUR Champions Player Has To Borrow Golf Ball From Playing Partner
Rick Garboski qualified for the Hoag Classic this past week via a Monday qualifier. During Saturday’s round Garboski was playing with Mark Calcavecchia and after the round Calcavecchia told the world about it.
Saw something today that was an all time 1st in 41 years of pro golf. Rick Groboski ran out of balls. Only had 3. Thought he had 6. Anyways after 2 balls in the drink on 4 had to borrow a ball. 2 shot penalty. Then had to drop back a group to wait for locker room guy to bring

The two stroke penalty was applied since Garboski violated the One Ball Rule stating that you must use one specific brand and model of golf ball during the whole round. Well he ran out of his Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash balls and had to use something different.
According to PGATour.com, Garboski had been giving balls away to young fans all week and forgot to replenish his bag with more balls.
Garboski was then later assessed another one-stroke penalty for taking too long getting his new balls brought out to him from the clubhouse. He dropped back and joined the twosome behind him but it didn’t matter, he still got penalized.
Garboski’s reply to Calcaveecchia’s tweet says it all.
Calc. Can’t argue – it’s freaking hilarious. Total rookie move on my part. Bad combo of trying to keep a light bag – along with giving too many balls away to kids along the way. No such thing as bad publicity, right? 😜

Following his Sunday round Garboski said:
“It’s an unfortunate error, and I’m going to laugh about it. I’m just so thankful that the tour officials here figured out a way for me to actually finish. I didn’t mind the penalties, because I just wanted to be able to play today.”
We’ve all been there. We’ve all run out of balls on the course before, but usually we can just go in the woods and grab a few out of there that others have lost or borrow some from out buddies. This is just another scenario where the TOUR players are just like us.
Have you ever run out of golf balls out on the course?
