The PGA TOUR and LIV Golf will FINALLY square off in the newest iteration of TNT’s The Match, as Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will take on Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.

Golfweek reported on Wednesday that McIlroy and Scheffler will go up against DeChambeau and Koepka in Las Vegas in mid-December. It will be the first time PGA TOUR players will go up against LIV Golfers in non-Major Championship event.

The venue is not yet confirmed, but three of the previous four The Match events took place at the Wynn Golf Club, and one at Shadow Creek.

McIlroy confirmed the event:

“I’m thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December. This isn’t just a contest between some of golf’s major champions; it’s an event designed to energize the fans. We’re all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again.”

In a true attempt to bring the sport back together, this seems like it is the first dramatic step forward in the ongoing negotiations between the TOUR and the PIF, which funds LIV Golf and agreed to a merger with the TOUR last Summer.

It is also likely the perfect foursome as McIlroy and Scheffler are the perfect pair to represent the TOUR, while DeChambeau and Koepka, once rivals, have turned into friends and will surely provide perfect banter.

Ratings for the event could provide some insight on how crucial it is for the two golf tours to unite. Both the TOUR and LIV have struggled to combat declining viewership.
