REPORT: Mickelson Considers Removing LIV Lawsuit?

Phil Mickelson is again the name on everyone’s lips with regards to the ongoing legal battle between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour.

The trial date for the lawsuit has been set for January 2024, but despite the initial show of force, several players have subsequently removed their names from the lawsuit, and according to Sports Illustrated, frontman Phil is looking like he may do the same.

Speaking last week at the fourth LIV event in Chicago, Mickelson shared the following:

“Now that LIV is involved, it’s not necessary for me to be involved. I currently still am. I don’t know what I’m going to do, really… The only reason for me to stay in is (monetary) damages, which I don’t really want or need anything. I do think it’s important that the players have the right to play when and where they want, when and where they qualify for.”

Mickelson explained that he is trying to move on, and I think several of the golfers initially on the suit have realized their efforts are best spent elsewhere.  The LIV Golfers would be better served to just enjoy their golf, by all means, voice their opinions, but actively trying to harm the PGA Tour doesn’t match up well with the strapline of ‘growing the game.’ Alongside Phil, currently remaining on the suit are Bryson DeChambeau, Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford, Matt Jones, Ian Poulter, and Peter Uihlein.

Mickelson may have realized this, and despite his large fan base, it doesn’t portray him in the best light to be leading the charge against the PGA Tour. For now, his name remains on the lawsuit, but at this rate, the trial may become obsolete, and the suit removed altogether.
