REVIEW: Takomo Iron 101 Top Tracer First Swing Test
After all the cellophane has hit the floor and the light glares just a bit off the bladelike facade of the Takomo Iron 101’s, the anticipation of hitting the clubs has finally ceased.
The initial impressions were all good, with the allure of these game improvement clubs being the sleek design for an astonishingly inexpensive price. If you haven’t already, check out the unboxing videos.

Fast forward to TopGolf, with their Top Tracer technology coming in handy to accurately judge the Takomo 101’s. Admittedly, it is important to take a few things into consideration with the statistics.
I’m usually teeing up Pro V1’s, and if I go wild and nick a tree or scuff a cart path, said Pro V is retired. The balls at TopGolf are definitely worse for ware than my typical set. It is also worth considering a brisk headwind during the test.

I did hit each iron that was sent by Takomo; 4-PW. I focused on the clubs I use most often, which are the 4 iron because I love stingers, the 7 iron, and the 8 iron.
My first impression overall was that there was a ton of forgiveness and a lot more roll. There was also less spin on each shot, which gave some more run after carry.

Also noteworthy and delightful was an additional 5-10 yards of carry distance. The rumors were true, as I found my typical 150 club carrying close to the number with additional roll after landing. The reduction in spin was immediately noticeable, as was the forgiveness factor.
Even on miss-hits, there was a significant uptick in carry. Definitely welcomed for those like myself who can miss a strike from time to time.

Bottom line: the Takomo Iron 101’s look great and feel even better. One of the big hype factors initially was the potential of gaining confidence just by looking over the clubs.
The comfortability after hitting these clubs gives all the confidence that you need to progress your game. I can’t wait to get these out on the course for the first round.
