Rickie Fowler Costs Fan Millions on Bet

With the PGA TOUR season winding down now, all four majors have been completed. Some of the winners were expected and some were surprises but one man came incredibly close to predicting every winner.

After Sergio Garcia won the Masters and Brooks Koepka won the U.S. Open, one man’s bet in England went viral, as he had made two correct predictions on the first two majors. Jordan Baker, the professional who had made the bet on the website Bet365, put two euros down on a straight ticket that gave him one million to one odds to pick every major winner. The bet would have netted him two million euros if were to pick all four correctly.

Baker was off to a great start and had a great finish. As mentioned earlier, Baker had correctly selected Sergio Garcia to win the Masters and Brooks Koepka to win the U.S. Open. And, as we came to find out over the weekend, Baker also was right in picking Justin Thomas to win the PGA Championship. The only problem was his Open Championship selection.

For the Open Championship, Baker incorrectly predicted that Rickie Fowler would walk away with his first major championship. Instead, it was Jordan Spieth who came away with the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale. Fowler wasn’t a complete bust pick, however, as he did finish T-22nd in the tournament. The ironic part about missing on Fowler was that, according to Bet365, he had the best odds to win of any of Baker’s predictions.

You can’t really blame Fowler for the lost bet but it would have been an incredible story if Rickie could’ve played just a little better at Royal Birkdale. Unfortunately for Baker, he gets nothing for getting three picks correct since it was only a straight bet. There were rumors that Baker was also offered some money to abandon his bet after the first two wins but he declined so he could see the bet through.

Even though he missed on picking Fowler, Baker had an incredible knack for picking major winners this season. Maybe next year, however, he would be better off betting on each major individually.
