Dr. German Reyes of Georgia was a big golf fan who enjoyed nothing more than hitting the links. Sadly, Reyes was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year and his prognosis indicated that he didn’t have much time left on this Earth.

When Dr. Reyes’ story reached his favorite PGA TOUR player the young gun decided to do something about it.

Out of nowhere, Rickie Fowler made the decision to fly down to Atlanta, Georgia and met up with Dr. Reyes to play a round of golf with him. While the day meant a lot for Reyes, it meant a lot for Fowler too. He said that the two enjoyed the entire round, including two meals, and shared many laughs. Fowler even said that Reyes’ game rubbed off on him a bit.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Fowler shared the story of his brief time with Reyes, who recently passed away after his battle with cancer.

“For him I hope it was a fun filled enjoyable round of golf!” Fowler posted. “For me it turned out to be much more than that…from breakfast to the course to a late afternoon lunch it was amazing! We shared a cart and shared plenty of laughs along the way! I think some of his putting rubbed off on me too as he made plenty that day! It was a day I will remember for the rest of my life!”

The gesture was truly a class act by Fowler and it was not lost on his peers. In fact, Fowler is known as one of the nicest players on the PGA TOUR, with people like Jordan Spieth saying he is one of the nicest humans in the world. Justin Thomas also praised Fowler’s selfless acts on Twitter, calling his buddy one of the best people that he knows.

For Reyes and his family, Fowler provided them an experience and story that will last a lifetime. We send our condolences to the Reyes family and hope that Fowler can accomplish as much on the PGA TOUR this year as he does for the entire golf community.
