Ryan Moore, who left his tie home for round 4 of the CIMB Classic, grabbed the biggest paycheck of his career on Sunday earning $1.26 million dollars after draining a 4-footer to clinch the win. The sudden death playoff between Gary Woodland and Moore didn’t last long, as Moore slammed the door after the first extra hole.
Darkness in Malaysia forced the tie to remain overnight on Sunday, with the tournament not concluding until early Monday morning with a 7:30am tee off. The two Americans teed off on the long 634-yard par 5 18th where it seemed that big hitter Woodland could have made it in two. Moore laid his second shot up leaving a 157 yard 3 shot which he stuck 4 feet from the pin for a birdie try. Woodland failed to find the green on his 3rd shot and ended up with a difficult 4th shot from the rough. After he failed to chip in for birdie, the pressure was off Moore who sank the 4-footer for victory.
When asked about his pre-shot routine on 18, Moore said, “As far as on 18, you know, I have done that a few times this week. I really worked on my pre-shot routine and my alignment. I am one of those people … if I am not comfortable, I back off and go through the routine and I get in there again.”
Moore opened the tournament with a 63 which set him up nicely, allowing him to post 72-69-70 in the final three. Woodland had a chance to win on the 72nd hole with a 12-footer that just missed the cup, opening the door for Moore to hit his par to force the playoff.
With the win, Ryan Moore moves to 2nd in FedExCup points behind Jimmy Walker.
Golficity fantasy picks Jimmy Walker and Keegan Bradley notched Top-10, while Sergio Garcia, Bill Haas, and Phil Mickelson all claimed Top-20s.
Next week the World Golf Classic will kick off in Shanghai (October 31) and defending champion Ian Poulter will be back to reclaim his title.
