Steve Williams is Happy That Tiger Won The Masters
Watching Tiger win The Masters last week was exhilarating and reminded us of the Woods wins of old. But even though Woods’ win is reminiscent of his previous major wins, there were some big differences, mainly who was on his bag.
Throughout his entire career until a little less than a decade ago, Tiger Woods had legendary caddie Steve Williams at his side carrying his bag. Williams is the man that Tiger won all of his first 14 majors with and appeared to be one of Tiger’s closest friends. That all went down south, however, when the two split up soon after Tiger developed medical ailments.
If you can recall back then, there were rumors that Williams was fired by Tiger but since then, many have also opined that Williams basically quit on Tiger by working with Adam Scott as Woods recovered from surgery. Regardless, the relationship has been sour ever since with Williams even releasing a book that paints Tiger as a jealous, scornful human.

But even after all of the hate that these two have shown each other since their remarkable run, they still care about the other. Williams illustrated this perfectly in a written piece that states that he broke his only rule, never watching golf now that he is retired, to watch Tiger claim his 15th major. Williams even expressed how proud he was in a personality change he’s noticed in Woods.
“That outpouring of emotion is testimony to the fact that winning his 15th major was harder than winning his first one,” Williams said. “But the celebration also showed a real change in Tiger. I was impressed with how open and friendly he seemed. We all mellow with age – that’s part of the process of getting older but this was a significantly different Tiger.”
There have been some incredible reactions to Tiger’s win but Williams’ response may be one of the most unexpected and motivational. Perhaps this means that the two could reconcile at some point and regardless of if you support Tiger or not, that would be a wonderful thing for the golf world.
