Just For Fun
THE MATCH: Charles Barkley Uses Balls Featuring Shaq’s Face
This past week has been quite a busy one for everyone in the United States with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. But hopefully, in between all of the shopping and eating all of that food, golf fans had a chance to check out the third version of The Match.
The Match was played on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and featured a matchup between the teams of Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley versus Stephen Curry and Peyton Manning. Being that Mickelson was the only professional golfer in the event, it certainly wasn’t as much of a golf clinic to watch as opposed to when Tiger Woods was part of the event but there were still many great moments nonetheless, especially trash talk.
At the end of the day, it was the team of Mickelson and Barkley that ended up winning the event. That actually may come as a surprise to many because even though Mickelson had a huge leg up on the field, Barkley is widely regarded as having one of the worst golf swings anyone has ever seen. But still, Chuck showed a new and improved swing that helped overcome the good amateur duo of Manning and Curry.

Just because Barkley played better, however, doesn’t mean that he didn’t provide possibly the funniest moment of the event. For those who aren’t basketball fans, Barkley is a part of TNT’s coverage of the NBA and he works with the “Inside the NBA” crew that includes Ernie Johnson, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal. The whole crew joined the broadcast of The Match just to tease Barkley but Phil made sure that Chuck was able to get back at them.
When the Inside the NBA crew joined the broadcast, Mickelson gave Barkley a special gift, golf balls with Shaq’s face printed on them. Barkley and Shaq have a fun little rivalry on the show so when Chuck got them he immediately cracked the joke that “This is the ugliest ball in the world right here.” The crew couldn’t help but laugh and definitely gave some of the best entertainment of the entire broadcast.
If you weren’t able to watch The Match because of shopping or spending time with family, we highly suggest that you take a look at the highlights for some good golf and good laughs. And hopefully, for next year’s Match, there will be even more entertainment with the hope that fans can be there to take it all in.
