And the trump card has been played. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has made it clear, the PGA Tour has suspended all LIV participants.

The captains of the LIV Series teams and all players included are teeing off to the news that they have been removed from FedEx Cup rankings and suspended from the Tour. The HyfFlyers, Majesticks, Cleeks, and beyond, are also ineligible for the Ryder Cup. It is a bold move from the PGA, and one that Jay Monahan had previously threatened and has now followed up, making it clear where players must devote their services.

The LIV Golf Twitter account has released a statement in response this morning, just as the first round gets underway in England, saying that the decision is vindictive, ‘deepening the divide between the Tour and its members’.

The LIV statement via Twitter ends by saying ‘The era of free agency is beginning’, which is ironic as they tee up while backed financially by a corrupt dictator.

The PGA statement specifically mentions those who have already resigned from the PGA Tour, namely Sergio Garcia, DJ, Kevin Na, and Lee Westwood, to name a few. Interestingly, The Masters tournament acts as a separate entity, and will still allow past champions Phil Mickelson, DJ, and Sergio to participate. Adding to the news that Phil intends to play the US Open next week, the majors are now standing out even more on the golfing calendar.

The players now know where they stand, and what is at stake. The full PGA Tour statement can be found here.
