THE PLAYERS Championship Purse Is Insane!

THE PLAYERS Championship is the PGA TOUR’s flagship event. The field always has the best players in it and is better than any other tournament besides the majors.

This year the purse is higher than ever and there is a lot of money to be made if a player just makes the cut. Check out this breakdown of the payouts.

Players purse this week is comical.

1st: $3.6M
2nd: $2.2M
3rd: $1.4M
4th: $980K
5th: $820K
6th: $725K
7th: $675K
8th: $625K
9th: $585K
10th: $545K

Insane right? Imagine coming in 3rd place and still winning $1.4 million. That’s more than some winners get in some tournaments on Tour. I guess that’s what happens when you’ve got $20 million to pass out.

Arguably even crazier is that the top 36 finishers will make six figures or more this week. No wonder the field is stacked this week. Who wouldn’t want a shot at all that money? Even the player who makes the cut and then finishes dead last is going to walk away with $43,000.

Maybe this is what Kevin Kisner was thinking about when he said, “they give a lot of money for 20th.”
