This Amateur Golfer Just Smashed Another Course Record in Epic Fashion
We saw Bryson DeChambeau become just the seventh pro golfer to shoot at 58 when he did so at LIV Golf’s event at The Greenbrier in West Virginia last week, but he’s got nothing on 19-year-old Jackson Van Paris.
The incoming junior at Vanderbilt University is on his way to tearing up the courses that historic Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina has to offer.
In late June, Van Paris shot at 61 on Pinehurst No. 4 during the North and South Amateur event, which broke the course record.
This week, he took on The Cradle – the par-3 course on the Pinehurst grounds.

When the dust settled, Van Paris owned another course record, carding an 18 on the par-27 layout. And if he birdied the final hole, it would’ve been a -10. His first eight holes included seven birdies and a hole-in-one.
Van Paris is the No. 44 amateur in the world but seems to have a handle on Pinehurst’s offerings. He’s from the area, so this is the definition of home-field advantage.
News out of @PinehurstResort: There is a new course record at The Cradle!
And it is no surprise who set it: https://t.co/MNU3If0Y75

“Being from here played a huge part in my success today. It’s why I feel so comfortable out here,” Van Paris said after his 61 six weeks ago. “Knowing where to miss the ball is just as crucial as knowing where to hit your ball out here.”
Next year’s U.S. Open is at Pinehurst No. 2. While that might be too soon for Van Paris to take part, the historic course will also hold the event in 2029.
