Tiger Shot 59 in 1997, But Could’ve Shot What?

Tiger Woods is without a doubt one of, if not the only, G.O.A.T. when it comes to golf.

He has done it all and he’s not done yet, but arguably what he did in 1997 might be one of his most impressive feats yet.

Shooting 59 on TOUR is a rarity to say the least. The probability of shooting 59 on the PGA TOUR is 0.002% and since 1983 there have only been 12 rounds of 59 on TOUR.

Even more rare, there has only been one round of 58 and zero rounds better than 58. Tiger Woods claims that his 59 could’ve been a 57.

He played Isleworth Golf Club starting on 10 one week before the Masters, which he went on to win, and parred 10, birdied 11 and 12, eagled 13, birdied 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 1. He then went on to have a round 8 holes making a few pars to shoot his 59.

If those two pars turned into birdies Tiger could’ve easily shot 57.

The craziest part of all is that the next two holes that Tiger played the next day are arguably more impressive than the 59. Starting on 10 again he birdied 10 and then made a hole-in-one on 11.

Another crazy fact to come of this is that Tiger has never shot 60 in his entire life. He has shot 61 many times and 59 once, but never 60.

Imagine having half the skill the Tiger has. All of us amateurs would take his skill for just one hole. Everything he has been able to do is just so impressive and this story adds onto Tiger’s legacy.

Do you think Tiger will ever go that low again on TOUR?
