It’s about that time of the year again when the golf world begins to narrow down candidates for the next year’s Hall of Fame Class. And for the 2021 class, there’s one name that is starting to stand out.

The 26 person nominating committee for the World Golf Hall of Fame announced 10 finalists for the Class of 2021 and that list includes four players, namely Padraig Harrington and Tiger Woods. It may be seen as odd to have two current players, especially one of which who is still competing at a high level, but golf regularly inducts current players into their Hall of Fame due to the longevity of playing careers.

Two other former players, Johnny Farrell and Tom Weiskopf, were also included in the final list of nominees, along with other contributors to the game. Those other nominees include  Dottie Pepper, Sandra Palmer, Beverly Hanson and Susie Maxwell Berning, former PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem, and former female course designer Marion Hollins.

“The nominating committee has selected 10 finalists who represent the highest caliber of golfers and contributors,” World Golf Foundation chief executive officer Greg McLaughlin said in an announcement on the Hall of Fame website.”We are grateful to the nominating committee for their work and anticipate the Class of 2021 being one of our strongest to date.”

Looking at the list of potential candidates on this list, you have to think that Tiger is a lock. Harrington looks like a lock as well considering his major championship success and run of dominance on the European Tour.

Personally, I believe Marion Hollins should get a strong look as well considering she opened the door for a variety of female designers to get their chance in the golf world that has traditionally been a male-dominated game.

It will be a while before the selection committee decides who and how many of these candidates will enter the Hall of Fame but it will be something to watch closely. And for some of these candidates, there could still be time to add to their case before the year is done.
