Tips for Playing Golf with Your Significant Other

Published

on

Playing golf with your significant other can be a very rewarding, but also often challenging, endeavor.  Whether your spouse, boyfriend, or girlfriend is already a seasoned golfer or even if they’ve never held a club, here are a few tips to make playing golf together a fun and fulfilling experience.

1.) Don’t be Overly Competitive

A little friendly competition and the occasional playful ribbing can be lots of fun but don’t let it go too far.  The key is to not take your round too seriously.  Becoming overly competitive can lead to a quarrel that carries on well after you walk off the 18th green.

2.) Be Patient

Your time out on the golf course with your significant other is quality time away from all the distractions of normal life.  Don’t hold it against them if your significant other is new to the game and struggling to keep up with your pace of play.  Simply be courteous and allow other golfers to play through so that your significant other doesn’t feel any added pressure that may cause him or her to dislike the learning process.  Remember to take your time, help your partner learn the game, and most importantly, enjoy your time together, no matter how long the round takes.

3.) Make a Day of It

Your significant other’s only interest in playing golf may be the fact that he or she is getting to spend time with you.  When this is the case, don’t rush through your day.  Stop by the clubhouse for a nice lunch or dinner together after your round.  This will give you both the time to relax and talk about your day.  It also gives your significant other more of a reason to want to join you on the course if he or she knows you’ll also be enjoying a nice date together afterwards.

No matter if they are a scratch handicap or just starting out, the key to a successful round with your significant other is to enjoy your time together.  Hopefully you both share a similar passion for the game, but even if you don’t you can still make playing golf together a fun experience and a nice break from your day to day routine.
