The 2022 3M Open held at TPC Twin Cities in Minnesota finished in dramatic fashion, with Tony Finau edging out Scott Piercy to take home the trophy. Piercy’s five shot lead disintegrated while Finau’s game stayed steady, but not without drama within itself.

The par 3 17th saw Tony fire a ricochet shot off the tee that landed just barely in bounds and dry.

He then promptly fired his 18th tee shot in the water to bogey, but finished his round at 1 under and 17 under for the weekend.

Piercy’s struggles paved the way for Finau to finish his strong showing and take home his third tour win. One of the reasons that this win gives the golf world something to feel good about is the respect that Tony had for Scott Piercy’s second place finish, a place that Finau has found himself all too often throughout his career.

There was nothing other that genuine happiness for each other present after the round had concluded and Piercy met with Finau to congratulate him. The sportsmanship didn’t seem obligatory, rather heartfelt and sincere.

Another reason that this win feels so good for the fan is how connected Tony is with his fans. His wife runs an instagram account dedicated to his family and their life on tour, at home, and beyond. One of the coolest updates that the @finaufresh Instagram account gives the viewers is an update of his Nike apparel and footwear choices for each weekend. We see you in those Jordan 1’s Tony!

Shortly after the win, Finau indicated that he wears green in memory of his mother, who passed away. Tony also said that this was the first time that his whole family was present to see him win. A special moment was shared with the family to certify the victory.

Congratulations to Tony Finau and the entire Finau family for his third tour victory. For a guy that has come up just short so many times, it was a thrill to see his game take him to the top of the leaderboard in Minnesota. Can he secure win number four in the near future?
