Imagine your mom calling you out for making a rules infraction on TV?

Young stud Viktor Hovland carded a two-under 70 on Thursday at the Players Championship.  But, little did he know, the score was incorrect.

PGA TOUR announced later that Viktor was given a two stroke penalty under Rule 14.7 for playing a ball from the wrong location.  It happened on the par 4- 15th hole,  when Hovland moved his ball mark out of the way of his playing partners line on the putting green. It was determined that Hovland did not replace the ball marker back to the correct spot.

But here is where it gets a little interesting. It was later, that Viktor’s mom stepped in after seeing the infraction on TV.

So, how did mom call him out?   Well, after the round Hovland received a phone call on his way out of TPC Sawgrass from his mom back in Norway.  She point blank asked him, “aren’t you going to be penalized for the infraction on 15?”

At this point, Viktor had no clue what she was talking about, but then she took it to the next level.  This is where mom was being a mom.

“He and his caddie reached out to our committee and asked if we had any video of it, because he had no recollection of doing it,” said a TOUR official.  Good move on Viktor’s part right there.

After checking the replay, the video did confirm what his mom has discovered.  Hovland did not put his ball marker back in its original spot.  Basically, you know when we move the marker “a putter head length out of the way” for our playing buddy? Well, if you don’t put it back to the original spot, yep, thats a two-stroke penalty friends!

And because of mom’s tough love (and Viktor’s mistake really), he has missed the cut at the PLAYERS with a +2, when the cut line was Even.  Yep, those two strokes did matter.
