TOUR News: Morikawa Enters Long Term Partnership with TaylorMade

Collin Morikawa has quickly become one of the young, up and coming players on the PGA TOUR.  With barely 3 years on the TOUR, the 25-year old has nailed down 5 PGA TOUR wins, including 2 major championships—2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship.

With Tiger on the sidelines and Rahm now at Callaway and occupying the World No. 1 position, you can imagine that TaylorMade is starting to gear up for the AT (After Tiger) era.

But to make sure they each solidify their position going forward, TaylorMade and Morikawa have announced entry into a multi-year extension to their partnership.

The current World No. 2 golfer commented on the longterm relationship, stating:

“TaylorMade has been with me my entire professional career, and I am excited to continue to be a part of Team TaylorMade for many years to come. Between the unrivaled equipment and the continued dedication of the team out on Tour, TaylorMade has set a standard as the best golf equipment company in the world.”

It is worth noting that Morikawa recently confirmed that there is no possibility he will be joining the Super Golf League, stating:

“I’m all for the PGA Tour. I’ve been a pro for two and a half years. My entire life I’ve thought about the PGA Tour. I’ve thought about playing against Tiger [Woods], beating his records, whatever, something that might not even be breakable. But I’ve never had another thought of what’s out there, right? I’ve never thought about anything else, it’s always been the PGA Tour.

Although you want to take the comments on face value, it’s hard not to be cynical and think that TaylorMade may have required Morikawa remain on the PGA TOUR, with limited exceptions to play on the DP World Tour, as part of this multi-year extension in order to protect their brand’s reputation.

Morikawa is currently has the following in his bag:

Ever since golf became a competitive outlet, nothing brings Eric more joy than a well struck 4 iron. And despite living in NYC, Eric makes it a priority to work on his game and fitness during the week, along with a round or two over the weekend. Fortunately, he’s got a very understanding fiancé who (for the time being) accepts him and his obsession. Follow Eric on IG @hozel_rocket.
