We picked Tiger this week in our Fantasy Odds and Predictions edition for a reason – because he truly owns this course. With this win Tiger Woods matched Sam Snead’s record of 8 wins in a single PGA TOUR event and has jumped over Rory McIlroy in the World Golf rankings to reclaim the number 1 spot, a spot he hasn’t held since October 2010. Tiger previously held the top spot for 264 weeks from August 1999 to September 2004 and then again for an additional 281 weeks from June 2005 to October 2010.
After rain forced Round 4 to be suspended on Sunday, play resumed on Monday at a sunny Bay Hill as Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler continued their pairing. What was shaping up to be a tight race eventually fell into Tiger’s favor after Fowler triple bogeyed 16; putting 2 balls in the water. Tiger played 18 safely after missing the fairway right and chipping out to give him an easy 3rd shot onto the par 4 18th green.
Wearing red again, Tiger walked up to the 18th green with a three stroke lead in his back pocket. Woods laid his first putt within 1 inch of the cup and bit his putter with a huge smile. His tap in bogey sealed the deal as he made his way to greet the King, Arnold Palmer, for his prize.
This is Tiger Woods’ final tune-up before the first major of 2013 at Augusta where he will try for his 15th career major victory – a feat that has haunted him for some time.
