Tournament Preview: The 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational

Published

on

The Florida golf circuit will conclude this week in Orlando and will head out to Texas before returning back east for the Masters at Augusta.  Returning champion Tiger Woods, is back in his old form again after a monster win at Doral 2 weeks ago.   Similar to that event, Tiger went up against Graeme McDowell on the final day to win for his 7th time on Arnie’s coveted track.

Bay Hill’s changed the most since its existence when it reverted to a par 72 — and the GIR was at a 6 year high last year. In the last three years, it’s ranked inside the top six of all courses and last year’s measurement of 38’5″ ranked sixth. It had never ranked higher than 25th-longest since it placed T8 in 2002 at 38’8″.   One putts, which Tiger did so eloquently at Doral, will not be as easy at Bay Hill as it ranked 6th most difficult in putting on TOUR last year.

Rory McIlroy is in jeopardy of losing his coveted World No. 1 ranking this week with a win by Tiger.  The Irishman looked to be in a better place at Doral but wont be back in action until the Texas run.  Brandt Snedeker, who took 5 weeks off to rest a rib injury, will be back in contention this week to maintain his top spot on the FedExCup points leaderboard.

With a long track measuring over 7,400 yards and rain in the forecast, scores may not be that low.  Winds will pick up this week and 80 degrees of cloudy, dreary weather will be in effect for Rounds 3 and 4.
