Trending: Viktory in Dubai for Hovland
Norwegian Viktor Hovland came from six shots back on Sunday to snatch a dramatic win in Dubai.
Starting the day on -6, Hovland trailed the 54 hole leader Justin Harding on -12. A triple bogey 6 on the par 3 11th all but ended Harding’s chances, and Rory McIlroy moved into pole position after he birdied the same hole to move into the lead on -11.

After another birdie on 13, it looked like Rory needed just one more birdie to seal the win. However, with the ball a long back in the fairway on the par 5 18th, Rory struck a fairway wood into the water to make bogey and come up one short of joint clubhouse leaders Viktor Hovland and Richard Bland.
Bland birdied the last to get to -12, while Hovland’s route to -12 was a little more dramatic with an incredible finish of birdie, eagle, birdie to give himself a chance.

The pair replayed 18 in a playoff and Viktor’s birdie was good enough to beat the 48 year old Bland on an entertaining final day in Dubai.
The Middle Eastern swing continues next week as we move onto the Ras Al Khaimah Championship at the Al Hamra Golf Club in the UAE.

LIV Golf Has Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s Relationship on Thin Ice
Viktor Hovland is a Norwegian – not a Dane! Rory needs a new/proper caddie who can tell him what to do. That was a lay up all day long – 267 with a mud ball??? A lay up was a guaranteed playoff and a decent shot at the win.
Viktor Hovland is Norwegian
Thank you Guyner. Good spot. Don’t think Viktor would be too happy with me mixing up his nationality with another Balkan state. That should be tweaked in the article now.
I have to agree on the lay up. Rory brought bogey and double bogey into play with that shot and so the bogey transpired. Lay up gives him a chance to win outright and basically never miss the playoff.
Entertaining stuff at the very least (unless you backed Rory of course).
