It is not unheard of for a PGA rookie to take home a championship in his first season on the Tour, in fact, many players have already accomplished that feat this year.   There is something more special, however, for Wesley Bryan earning his first victory.

Bryan came out on top at the RBC Heritage this past weekend after a come from behind performance that saw him erase a four-stroke deficit in the final round to defeat Luke Donald.  While this would be noteworthy regardless of the player, this was special because of Bryan’s past golf antics that made him a star.

The Bryan Bros, George and Wesley Bryan, have developed their own method of driving golf balls from the tee box. Before becoming a professional on the PGA TOUR, Bryan and his brother George IV were YouTube sensations.  The Bryan Brothers have quite a few videos on YouTube where they complete different trick shots.  For example, one member of the duo will chip a ball thirty yards while the other brother smashes the ball with their driver before it hits the ground.  The duo was so popular that they even had GoPro posting videos of their trick shots.

Other than the trick shot relation to Bryan, there is another reason that his victory means so much this week.  Bryan is a South Carolina native and even played college golf for the home-state Gamecocks.  By winning the RBC Heritage in his home state, Bryan became the first South Carolinian to win the event.  He was also the first player to win on their first appearance at Harbour Town since Boo Weekley in 2007.

Even though he has been able to complete some ridiculous trick shots in golf, Bryan was still extremely nervous during his final round.  “I wasn’t nervous all day and number 17 I got up, and honestly I just threw up a little bit in my mouth, and I was like ‘well shoot, I guess this is what nervous feels like’,” Bryan said, “I was able to get it back together.”

Now that Bryan has successfully won a tournament on the PGA TOUR, he should be able to climb out of the shadow of his trick shooting past and hopefully carry this momentum into other tournaments for the rest of the season.
