Walk Through the Changes at TPC Sawgrass
The PGA TOUR website launched a super-cool, interactive site that walks through the challenges TPC Sawgrass has always presented the best golfers in the world, as well as all of the changes to the course since last year. Check it out here.
A few of the highlights:
First, of course Jack Nicklaus won three of the first five editions of THE PLAYERS Championship. Also, kudos to then PGA Commissioner Deane Beman for recognizing the need for a permanent home for the tournament.
The idea that the course was specifically designed for fans to be able to view the play, incorporating large viewing mounds if fascinating.
The new design of the back-nine is going to make for great television. Especially the drivable par-4. Imagine if someone is making a late run and decides to make a go at driving the green. At the same time, if the leader tries to play it safe on 12, he could find himself in trouble just by laying-up in the wrong spot.
Also, the updated look of the sixth hole is just perfect.
Finally, the set-up of the practice area and range is brilliant. A player can essentially play a round of golf in his mind while at the range. Even replicating the look of 17 with bulkheads around an actual green. Just amazing.
Overall, this interactive site is just fantastic. Bravo, PGA TOUR and writer/director Sean Martin. Let’s do more of this!
