What is the Correct Tee Height?

Golf Tee Height

Tee sizes can range from 55mm to 83mm and the length of tee required for a tee shot can vary. So, the question most golfers ask is how
high should I tee-up my ball?

First, determine the golf club you plan on using for your tee shot. After your holding the correct club you can then determine your tee height. Each club has a different degree of loft; the shorter irons (7, 8, 9, PW) have the most amount of loft and the longer wood clubs (Drivers, Woods, & Hybrids) have the least amount of loft.

Knowing this, the clubs with the most loft require the shortest tee height. These can then be pressed far down so that the ball is very close to the ground. This is best for the short irons such as the 9, 8, and possibly 7.

If you’re teeing-off with your driver, then a longer tee will be better. Some professionals claim having the ball slightly above the face of the driver will allow you to hit underneath it, giving you some loft you’re your distance. Simple place these tees a few centimeters into the ground, leaving 90% of the tee exposed above ground. You’ll notice the loft…

In the event that the wind is blowing like Kansas in the Wizard of Oz, you will not want to expose your tee shot to a high degree of loft…you just may end up in someone’s living room. Instead, tee-up a little lower than normal and use a longer club with less loft to stay away from the high wind.

Essentially, your tee height depends on the club selected and the amount of loft required. For the most lofted clubs the smaller tees are more suitable. However, for the longer clubs tee-up higher for greater loft and potential distance.
