YIKES: Jeopardy! Contestants Miss Golf Clue
There’s not a lot that Jeopardy! and golf have in common with each other, except their ties to NBC. But both worlds collided earlier this week and the contestants did not perform well.
Jeopardy! is one of the most popular game shows in the world but if you aren’t familiar with the game, its basically a trivia game with three rounds. The first two rounds allow players to answer questions to build up money. In the final round, players are able to risk as much money as they would like from what they’ve earned on one final question. The player with the most money at the end wins.
During one of the games this week, the “Final Jeopardy!” question that was asked was sports related with the category being “Highest-Paid Athletes.” The question that came up was “on the Forbes 2020 list of highest-paid athletes, at age 50 this active individual sportsman is the oldest.” For golf fans, this answer is obviously Phil Mickelson but the game contestants couldn’t figure it out.

The first player to answer ended up guessing Jaromir Jagr. Unfortunately, the NHL player is not an individual sportsman and he isn’t 50 so while it wasn’t a bad guess, it was definitely wrong. The second contestant actually figured it out in the final seconds but only had time to write “Phil” down before she ran out of time, rendering her answer incorrect. The final player had no idea and simply wrote down “Mr. Magoo.”
And if you were wondering what Lefty’s thoughts are on the whole situation, his response didn’t disappoint. After learning of what happened on the show, Phil tweeted…
Just when I think I’ve arrived ( I was the answer to tonight’s final Jeopardy question) I realize I still have a ways to go (they all got it wrong ):

Personally, I think Phil has “made it” and the Jeopardy! contestants just weren’t too in tune with sports. But hopefully next time a golf question or category comes up, the players will give a little more respect to some of the game’s top players.
