Looks like we hopped back on the Stenson train at the right time!

Going back to our fantasy picks last week, we were pretty pumped about about the Swedish pro’s chances heading into the TOUR Championship at East Lake, stating that “we love his chances this week,” even after his disappointing T33 at the BMW Championship

The tournament seemed like a slam dunk for Stenson after his 64-66 start, but Jordan Spieth and Steve Stricker kept closely behind waiting for Stenson to slip up on a course that he has never seen in his career.

This is by far the best stretch of Stenson’s career and he certainly picked the best possible moment to get hot as he headed into the final segment of the 2013 TOUR schedule in top form. It all began with his T3 at the Scottish Open over the summer, followed by runner up finishes at the Open Championship and the WGC at Firestone.  He went on to finish 3rd at the PGA Championship and won the Deutsche Bank Championship.

“Since the Scottish Open, it’s been just an incredible run,” he said. “I’m speechless. It was a tough day out there. To hang in there the way I did, I’m really satisfied…It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I had to fight hard mentally to keep all this aside, and I managed to do that. It’s going to feel better as the week goes on. I’m pretty sure about that.”

With the win Stenson brings home the $1.4 million TOUR Championship purse in addition to the massive $10 million FedExCup Playoffs prize and we’re sure plenty of endorsements will follow in suit.

Our rookie of the year choice, Jordan Spieth, fought hard but finished T2 with Stricker at -10, as Stenson proved to be untouchable. Spieth is sure to be a great addition to the USA Team for next week’s President’s Cup match (added as a Captain’s pick a few weeks ago).

Tiger Woods had a remarkable season with 5 PGA TOUR wins, but failed to make any noise in the playoffs or majors.  When it mattered most at East Lake, Tiger jumped out to a 73-71 start and he never recovered from it.

With the win, Henrik Stenson becomes the 4th best golfer in the world according to the World Golf Rankings.
