Tony Romo Weighs in on Scottie Scheffler: ‘He’s Never Failed to Break 70 in 500 Rounds’
Tony Romo has shed some light on how Scottie Scheffler plays when there isn’t a huge tournament on the line.
Surprise, surprise, it’s more of the same.
The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback is renowned for his passion for golf and told the media that he has played up to 500 rounds alongside the current, unflappable World #1 (This sounds like a bit of a stretch, considering that’s a round a week for ten years).
Tony Romo estimates he’s played 500 rounds of golf with Scottie Scheffler.

Romo said:
“I don’t think I’ve ever played a round with Scottie Scheffler and not seen him break 70, which is insane.”
“He’s had days where he’s played poorly. The next shot, he has the ability to auto-correct.”
“He’s one of the best pitchers of the golf ball, ever. His short game is incredible. Remember Tiger? If he putts well, he wins”.
It certainly seems to be true, as Scheffler barely sits in positive numbers in terms of strokes gained — putting. Now that he has started making some putts, the field barely stands a chance, considering his eye-watering numbers off the tee (1st on Tour), approaching the green (1st), and even around the green (6th).
Romo highlights an interesting aspect of champions – the ability to perform despite not being at their best and make adjustments on the fly. It’s one thing that makes Scheffler almost unassailable; whenever he shows weakness – another part of his game counterbalances to leave the end result the same. He hasn’t shot over par on Tour since before August 2023, and that round was still even par.
A natural competitor showing no signs of letting up, even in practice rounds with friends? Sounds like our next multiple-major champion is in the making. Watch out, Valhalla!
