TOUR: Jordan Spieth Claims His Game Needs Improvement at The Valero Open
Jordan Spieth’s first round at The Valero Open in San Antonio, Texas at TPC San Antonio has come to a close and he currently sits in a tie for third place at five-under-par heading into day two.
In spite of carding a Valero Open, career-low round of 67 on Thursday, Jordan says there are some things that must be improved if he has a chance of contending down the stretch.
During a presser following his first round, Jordan explained to the media that he had “really bad contact today” and that during a mid-round conversation with his caddie, Michael Greller, he discussed struggling to find the center of the club face.

At this moment, Spieth does not sound like a guy who currently sits in third place at -5. Instead he comes off as one who is struggling to do anything correctly and will have to fight his way to making the cut.
As a majority of Spieth fans have seen in the past, Jordan has a tendency to get in his head during play, and head games, consequently, take a toll on his confidence and production throughout tournaments. If Jordan has any chance of contending heading into the weekend, he must compliment himself on the aspects of his game he did well rather than dwelling on past mistakes.
This could, however, prove to be a major turning point for his game heading into Friday as he is trying to motivate himself to play the best golf he possibly can, and, according to Spieth, that was not the case today.
A high-place finish, or even a win, this weekend should give Jordan Spieth all of the confidence in the world as he prepares to contend at the 2021 Masters.
