Rory McIlroy FREAKS OUT After Losing DP World Tour Championship
Maybe frustration is finally getting to the very promising, very skilled Rory McIlroy. Just a few months ago, Rory gave his TaylorMade 3-wood the old heave-ho into the woods near the ninth hole at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey after mishitting a shot. Luckily, the club was (supposedly) recovered, although there’s no confirmation if it’s back in his bag.
Rory’s disappointing end at the DP World Tour Championship is his most recent “Hulk Smash” moment.

After finishing his 3rd round, Rory carded a 5-under 67 that provided him with a 1-shot lead going into the final round.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as 3 bogeys on the last 4 holes meant Rory shot a final round 74 to finish T-6.
The Northern Ireland golfing prodigy, who was hunting his 3rd victory in 2021 after winning the Well Fargo Championship and CJ Cup at Vegas, didn’t handle the collapse very well, as evidenced by the Niko polo that’s now in pieces.
Rory has a lot going, announcing just week that he will be dropping Pete Cowen, his swing coach for only the past 8 months, and returning to his longtime mentor, Michael Bannon. The move is interesting, but not too surprising, after Rory was able to quickly bring him 2 victories with Cowen’s assistance, but there’s a clearly a connection between McIlroy and Bannon that’s hard to replicate.

Rory commenting on the switch back stated that:
“Michael has always been my coach. He’s coached me since I was 8 years old. He’s also been there, even if he wasn’t visible, he’s been in the background for the last six months, and I think Michael knows my swing and my game better than I probably know it at this point.”
We’ve all gone through the curse screaming, club throwing, break sh*t phase while playing golf, but we fortunately don’t do this for a living. Hopefully Rory reuniting with Bannon means that he can dial in his swing and mind to help him get back on track and hunting for Sunday podiums before the 2021 Majors get underway.
