Phil Mickelson is out of sight but not out of mind this 2022 Masters Week.

Mickelson has taken a leave of absence from golf to take time away after his obtusely polarizing words and failed PGA coup attempt, but his presence, or lack thereof, is certainly felt.

During a press conference, Bryson Dechambeau noted Phil’s absence and claimed to have reached out with no success.

Dechambeau went on to say that Phil had “gone dark.”

Mickelson made his Masters debut in 1991.

After failing to qualify, Phil did not return to Augusta for competition until 1994.

With Masters wins coming in 2004, 2006, and 2010, the lefty has found success at the annual major.

With a dramatic finish to the 2004 campaign, Phil birdied the final hole to beat Ernie Ells by one stroke.

Throughout the years, faithful fans have been treated to comical Instagram updates with behind the scenes looks at his technique, preparation, and even light moments.

A classic Phil-Masters post came as Phil arrived at the course, narrating the drive up Magnolia Lane.

As the field kicks off into competition without Phil Mickelson, the void is felt but understood. Everyone makes mistakes, and we all deserve second chances.

While it is understandable that the sabbatical is necessary, Mickelson fans can’t help but notice the absence.
