TRENDING: 40 DP World Tour Pros File Exemptions to Play In LIV Tour Opener
The May 9 deadline to register for the LIV Tour’s opening event in England has passed, so we will soon find out which golfers in the world’s top 100 are trying to get into the field—pending the approval of the PGA and DP World Tours.
One golfer reportedly in is Martin Kaymer, who seems to be the former No. 1-ranked golfer that LIV Tour CEO Greg Norman teased.

After winning two majors, The Players Championship, and six European Tour events from 2009-14, the German hasn’t made many waves in recent years. This year, Kaymer has just three starts on the PGA Tour, making one cut (T48 at the Valspar Championship in March).
It’s believed that 40 DP World Tour players have filed for exemptions to play in the June 9-11 tournament, and according to one player, a big reason for that is money.

An unnamed DP World Tour pro told Golf Digest, “I’m 41, and I don’t want to be playing golf the rest of my working life.”
He explained that the purse at last week’s British Masters of 2 million Euros is around the same as it was 15 years ago and that by finishing in the middle of the pack, he’s only clearing around $1,300 (in U.S. dollars) after expenses. The then-European Tour sanctioned the Saudi International tournament from 2019-21, but it dropped that affiliation after entering into a strategic partnership with the PGA Tour.
The Saudi tournament was an Asian Tour event this year before the official announcement of the LIV Golf Invitational Series was made.
