Rory McIlroy to Square Off Against 11 LIV Golf Pros as He Chases DP World Tour Championship
Rory McIlroy, already owner of the FedEx Cup in 2022, is now looking to become the first golfer to win the PGA Tour’s season-long title and the DP World Tour’s championship in the same year.
The DP World Tour, formerly known as the European Tour, wraps up in November in Dubai, and Rory McIlroy leads the standings based on his excellent performance in the majors and also finishing second at the BMW PGA Championship last week.

But since LIV Golf pros are not banned from competing on that tour, McIlroy will be going head-to-head with his new rivals a few more times this year.
That includes facing off against 11 LIV golfers at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship later this month at St. Andrews and a couple of other courses in Scotland:
- Abraham Ancer
- Louis Oosthuizen
- Talor Gooch
- Jediah Morgan
- Shaun Norris
- Richard Bland
- Branden Grace
- Peter Uihlein
- Laurie Canter
- Charl Schwartzel
- Adrian Otaegui
McIlroy, who is becoming the most outspoken PGA Tour veteran against the upstart series, will no doubt be thrilled to see members of the LIV tour cherry-picking events on the DP World Tour in order to keep building Official World Golf Ranking points since they are not yet able to do so in LIV events.
🗣️ “They shouldn’t be here. They’re taking spots away from players who really need spots this week.”

Some names that are absent that played in Wentworth, England, last week and garnered some controversy include Ian Poulter, Patrick Reed, and Sergio Garcia, who withdrew after a first-round 76 without stating a reason to tournament officials and then showed up at the Alabama vs. Texas football game two days later.
