After finishing quite a successful and lucrative 2022, Cameron Smith is opening up a bit about his thoughts on the move to LIV Golf and now the majors should look at the new series.

Smith, who won THE PLAYERS Championship, the Open Championship, and a LIV tournament in Chicago this year, said he wished that more LIV pros were not as critical of the tours they played on that led them to this point in their careers. He believes that many players publicly focusing on the huge paydays and complaints about the PGA Tour and DP World Tour turn off fans.

“The angst comes from guys who have come through pathways on the DP World Tour backstabbing that tour or saying how bad it is. That is the part that irks me. I just don’t think you should bag where you have come from,” Smith told the Australian Daily Telegraph.

Smith also said that the four Majors should be above the politics and squabbles among golf leagues, given that the four tournaments are run by entities not tied to any tour.

“I think the Majors really have to stand above all the politics. If they really want the best product and the best players playing against each other in the world, they have to let us play. There’s no reason other than playing another tour that should suggest we shouldn’t play,” Smith said.

The governing body of the Open Championship said that they will not disqualify players on the LIV series, but it remains to be seen how many will be eligible to play if LIV does not accumulate Official World Golf Ranking points in 2023.

As for Smith, he’s guaranteed a spot in every major for the next five years due to winning the Open Championship this year, but it’s still not stopping him from advocating for his peers.
