Xander Schauffele Says He and Best Bud Patrick Cantlay Are Sticking With the PGA Tour
It doesn’t take much these days to get caught up in the LIV Golf rumor mill, as Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay found out recently.
Their names, along with Mito Pereira and others, were rumored to be targets for the 2023 season after LIV CEO Greg Norman said the series would be looking to add around seven golfers for next year.
A subsequent report squashed the talk about Schauffele jumping ship from the PGA Tour, but the reigning Olympic gold medalist cleared things up personally on the “No Laying Up” podcast.
.@XSchauffele on LIV rumors, the Delaware meeting, the changes made to the PGA Tour, his relationship with his dad, how he rose through the ranks, Ryder Cup ‘23, and more.

Schauffele said he heard the talk about LIV from friends who saw the reports online.
Schauffele told the pod:
“I pretty much just received messsages from my friends… Some of my friends just believed I would tell them if I was leaving the PGA Tour, and my other friends kind of texted me in disbelief, thinking it was true. I was like, c’mon.”
He went on to say,
“I had to end up Googling what was going on, there were these articles saying that Pat [Cantlay] and I are leaving [the PGA Tour].”
“So yeah, I pretty much just told everyone what I’m telling you, I haven’t talked to anybody. I was pretty much minding my own business in Vegas and then this whole thing blew up.”
Schauffele seems comfortable speaking for Cantlay. The two are close friends and team up on the course frequently—often with great success. They teamed up at the most-recent Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup and also won the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which is the only team event on the yearly schedule.
