Scottie Scheffler’s Grandma Walked 72 Holes to Watch Him Make History at THE PLAYERS
The number one golfer in the world once again, Scottie Scheffler, has an impeccable game off the tee, in the fairway, on the greens, and…beyond the ropes.
As Scheffler cruised to a victory at the PLAYERS Championship this weekend by five shots over Tyrell Hatton, his grandmother, Mary, walked all 72 holes to watch her grandson make history, becoming just the third golfer ever, and the first since Tiger Woods in 2001, to win the PLAYERS after taking home the Green Jacket from Augusta National the year before.

Scheffler was met with plenty of adversity over the weekend. TPC Sawgrass was not friendly to many players, with many big names, like Rory McIlroy, missing the cut. However, Scheffler’s prowess as the most dominant golfer in the game right now, with maybe only Jon Rahm coming close, helped him navigate tough conditions and treacherous winds and bring home a massive $4.5 million purse.
But perhaps his secret weapon was the presence of his family, especially the 88-year-old Mary, who walked all 72 holes this weekend.
Scheffler said to reporters:
“It’s pretty impressive she’s walking so many holes out here, she’s a trooper.”
Scheffler said it’s been a rough year for her. Her husband passed away in 2022, and along with other family matters, it just hasn’t been easy.
He said:
“I’m just happy that we’re able to kind of enjoy all this together.”
When asked how he planned to celebrate what is his biggest win since the Masters last year, he said Mary would play a big part.
“I don’t know. Maybe Grandma’s got some food at home. I know she has some dessert!”
