Tom Kim Goes Muddin’ to Cap Weird Weather Day at PGA Championship
In a round one that was delayed by frost at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, New York, the day wrapped up with Tom Kim sinking into the mud while looking for his errant tee shot on the par-4 sixth.
Kim went looking and came back without the ball but did have mud at least waist-deep.

“I was told my ball crossed the water. It was just in the mud over there, and if I was able to find it [and] I had a good enough lie I was thinking I could chip it over there.
“As soon as I went in, it was kind of sketch. But I mean it’s a major championship. I’m fighting for every single stroke I have.”
Once Kim freed himself, he went back into the creek to wash off and then change his shirt.
While he bogeyed that hole after taking a penalty for the lost ball, he composed himself to par the final three to finish at +3 on the day. That puts him tied for 55th and in play to make the weekend with a decent round on Friday.

Round one wrapped up Friday morning. Rookie Eric Cole was at -5 when his first round was stopped due to darkness. He played the final five holes early Friday to plus-2. That left LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau as the leader after the first round, sitting at -4 after 18 holes.
