More Big Changes Coming to the PGA Tour, Including “Next 10” and “Swing 5”
With the official release of the 2024 schedule on Monday, the PGA Tour outlined how golfers who aren’t automatically eligible for Signature Events (called Designated Events in 2023) will be able to qualify.

The first is by being a part of the Next 10. This will be the top 10 of the FedEx Cup standings who aren’t already exempt. For example, for the first two Signature Events, the top 10 eligible from the upcoming fall schedule will get berths into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational.
The second group will be called the Swing 5. These will be the top-five point-earners from the tournaments leading up to Signature Events. For Pebble Beach, it will include points earned from the Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express, and the Farmers Insurance Open. For Riviera, it includes the events we just mentioned plus the WM Phoenix Open.
Eligibility for signature events on the PGA Tour in 2024 (with fields between 70-80 players) :
• Top 50 members from 2022-23 FedEx Cup standings
• The Next 10: the top 10 members, not otherwise exempt, from the FedEx Cup standings
• The Swing 5: the top five FedEx Cup points…— Patrick McDonald (@AmateurStatus) August 7, 2023
As was reported last week, four Signature Events will have no cut for the first time in 2024: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, RBC Heritage, Wells Fargo Championship, and Travelers Championship.
Other changes include a bump in points for the winner of Signature Events from 550 to 700, a winner’s purse increase to $4 million at the Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the Memorial, and a record $25 million for the winner of the FedEx Cup.
2024 is also an Olympic year, so the first week of August will be an off week so golfers can compete for a gold medal in Paris.
